Place resistors in series stages or parallel branches, adjust the cell potential difference and resistances, and inspect live current and potential difference using V = I × R.
Series rules
• Current is the same everywhere: I_total = I₁ = I₂
• Potential difference is shared: V_total = V₁ + V₂
• Resistances add: R_total = R₁ + R₂
Parallel rules
• Potential difference across each branch is equal: V₁ = V₂
• Current splits at junctions: I_total = I₁ + I₂
• Reciprocal resistance: 1/R_p = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂
